Hello. I'm Nakajima, in charge of Applying for Relationship-based VISA.
The COVID-19 caused a lot of dismissal. Some of your partner may be fired, and you will be worried if there is any effect on your visa status.
Let’s see how you should do if you encountered this kind of situation!
There are 3 factors when the renewal of your spousal visa.
① The reliableness of the marriage(if the marriage is real or not)
② The stability of the marriage(if the couple is able to make ends meet)
③ The countinuity of the marriage(if the marriage is likely to continue)
If the supporter got unemployed, 2 and 3 will be the problem.
But it won’t be the reason for the denial only because the supporter is fired when you apply for the extension.
The Immigration Bureau judges the situation comprehensively, so it is important to explain the detail.
For example, you have a lot of savings, you bought the house, you can receive support from your relatives. If your supporter is likely to find a new job, you can attach the new employment contract.
If not, you can attach the record of job hunting or registration of Hello-work to prove that you are trying to find a new job.
The bottom line is, it is important for you to express that you and your spouse can continue your lives independently (especially economically).
Please do not file your extension application without attaching the explanation documents if you are in such situation.
Please consult us, especially if you are in this kind of situation.
The application can be submitted 3 months before the expiry date. Please prepare for it with allowance.
Thank you for reading.
