Naturalization, the process of acquiring Japanese nationality.
The process is quire different from that of visa application. It is like another world for you. The first day you visit the Legal Affairs Bureau is not the interview, just a brief meeting. At that day, you will be asked some questions and receive the list of documentation.
Today, I will disclose what kind of questions in this meeting!
Place of meeting: A single room of the Legal Affairs Bureau
The length: About 1 hour
Please calm down and listen carefully.
Example of questions:
・ Nationality, address, name, the first day you came to Japan, status of residence
Your current situation
・ If you keep your previous passports
Do you keep all the previous passports?
・ Family structure
Please talk about your family in your country.
・ Household situation
Do you live with someone or live alone?
・ Crime record, illegal stay record
Please, please do not lie to the inspector. It will be revealed in the end.
・ Departure record
How many days have you been outside of Japan in recent 5 years? It is good
for you to calculate it beforehand.
・ If you have your driving License and of yes, if you have traffic infringements
Please answer honestly if you have violated, even if it is the trivial ones.
・ Educational background
Please answer the last school you graduated from.
・ Occupation
Please answer briefly.
・ Property possession
Is your house for rent or own?
・ Tax payment record, pension record
Please answer the method of payment, like withdrew from you salary
・ Moving record or occupation record in the recent 3 years
These are just examples. Please use it as a reference if you are planning to apply for Naturalization.
The Legal Affairs Bureau has the unique rules which is quite different to the Immigration Bureau. Please consult us for this unaccustomed procedure.
