Hello. I'm Nakajima, in charge of Applying for Relationship-based VISA.
Every foreign national who stays in Japan has Residential card.
You are always required to carry it with you, but there’s no explanation when you first received it, right?
The card is the evidence of your identity, but you are not sure what kind of information it identifies, are you?
Today’s theme is the Residential Card, let’s see the detail.
In July 2020, the alien registration system was abolished, and new residency management system started. In the new system, the residential card system is installed.
The card is issued when you first enter Japan, change your residential status, renew your period of stay, etc. (except for Special Permanent Residence)
〇The Ministry of Justice is to issue a residence card to Foreign Nationals who are
residing with a status of residence in Japan, other than the following persons
1.a person who has been granted a Period of: Stay of not more than 3 months
2.a person who has been granted the status of residence of "Temporary Visitor"
3.a person who has been granted the status of residence of "Diplomat" or "Official"
4.a person provided for by Ministry of Justice Order as equivalent to a person listed
in any of the preceding three items.
5.Special Permanent Resident
6.A person who does not have a status of residence
〇The required information on the residence card
Name, Status of residence, Period of stay and expiration date of the period of stay, Validity period of the residence card, Issuing authority, ID photo,Residential card
number, whether or not there are any restrictions on work
The ID photo is affixed for those over 16 years old.
Even if the card shows that the holder has no work permission, they can work under the certain condition when the holder receives the Permission to Engage in Activity Over Than That Permitted under the Status of Residence Previously Granted.
〇The Validity of Residential Card
1) Permanent Residence
Over 16 years old: 7 years form the date of issue
Under16 years old: their 16th birthday
2) Highly-Skilled Professionals(ⅱ): 7 years form the date of issue
3) Persons other than above
Over 16 years old: correspond to the expiry date of status of residence
Under16 years old: whichever comes earlier, the expiration date of the period
of stay, or the individual’s 16th birthday
It occurs a big trouble if you should forget renewal of the residential card. Not being overstay is the most important matter, please be careful.
When you change your place of residence, please bring your card to the municipal office of your new residence within 14 days of moving to the new residence. The new address will be written on the back of the card, please do not write it by yourself.
If you lose the card or if the card is noticeably damaged or soiled, you must report it to the Immigration Bureau and immediately file the application for reissuance. Even when the card has not been damaged, you can ask for the reissuance.
We can take care of not only the renewal of the residential card but also the reissuance. Please consult us if you are too busy or feel anxious to do it by yourself.
