Those who hold “Permanent Residency” and “Highly-Skilled Professionals (ⅱ) are bound in duty to renew the validity their residential card.
Since the term of stay of these 2 statuses are unlimited, there is a high probability that you forget the renewal.
Please see your residential card and you will find the expiry date at the foot of the front side.
When to renew:
・ For Permanent Residency (over 16 years old) and HSP (ⅱ) visa holder
From 2 months before the expiry date
・ For someone whose expiry date falls on his/her 16th birthday
From 6 months before the expiry date
・ For someone who cannot renew the residential card because of the long absence
for business trips or studying abroad
Anytime before the renewal date
Required documents:
・ Application Form
・ ID photo
Passport or certificate of status of residence
・ Residential Card

The term of validity:
・ Under than 16 years old: Until your 16th birthday
・ Over 16 years old: 7 years
If you forget the renewal, you shall be liable to a fine of 200 thousand yen, or even your status of residence could be revoked!
