Hello. I'm Nakajima, in charge of Applying for Relationship-based VISA.
This article is written for someone who have “Designated Activities,” doing job hunting or waiting for the new job starting.
Through the influence of COVID-19, the special measures for visa extension was announced by the Immigration Bureau.
Special measures:
・Someone who are job hunting
Normally, the longest period of job hunting is up to 1 year. The measure allows them to extend the job hunting period if it is necessary for them.
They are also allowed to get Permission to Engage in Activity Other Than That Permitted under the Status of Residence Previously Granted.
・Someone who are waiting for the new job start
Normally, someone who have already received an unofficial offer must start their job in 1 year from the date of offer and 1.5 year from the date you graduated from the school in Japan. This period can be extended if they cannot join the company because of the COVID-19. Permission to Engage in Activity Other Than That Permitted under the Status of Residence Previously Granted is also available.
In both cases, you must add a letter which explains the situation when you file the application for the extension.
