Hello. I'm Nakajima, in charge of Applying for Relationship-based VISA.
The procedure "Re-entry Permit" that anyone who intends to leave Japan in the long term should do by all means!
It is a system that allows you to return to Japan safely even if the schedule is delayed.
These procedures are required for mid- to long-term residents to leave Japan.
1. Application for Special Re-entry Permi
2. Application for Re-entry Permit
You will choose either one depending on your situation
(If you don't plan to return to Japan, you don't need it)
Special Re-entry Permit
Applicable when a mid- to long-term residents leave Japan and return to Japan for less than one year
(if you are a special permanent resident, less than 2 years).
Re-entry Permit
Applicable when a mid- to long-term residents leave Japan for more than one year (if you are a special permanent resident, more than 2 years)We recommend this for those who returning home for giving birth, nursing care, and overseas business trips, etc.
As a Re-entry and Departure Record (Re-entry ED Card) has a column for the manifestation of the intention to re-enter Japan with a Special Re-entry Permit, please check the said column and present it making a statement of your intention to an immigration inspector.
However, if you are unable to return within one year, the status of residence and period of stay shall lapse!!
There are no special measures. It won't help you, whether it's a novel virus crisis or an inevitable disaster.
If this happens, you need to newly obtain a visa prior to the re-entry (application for a Certificate of Eligibility), file an application for landing and obtain a landing permit after going through procedures of examination for landing.
For example, Permanent Residents who have lost their right of permanent residence will need to reapply for permanent residence after meeting the requirements for permanent residence. Unfortunately, we occasionally encounter this kind of tragedy.
To avoid this, please apply for a “Re-entry Permit” by all means before you leave Japan
There are two types of Re-entry Permit, which are “valid only once” and “valid multiple times”
You should choose according to your situation.
What you need for the application
Application form, residence card, passport, fee (3000 yen for once or 6000 yen for multiple
Fortunately, there are remedies for Re-entry Permits!
If you are unable to return within the valid period of the Re-entry Permit, you may be able to extend it by consulting with the Embassy of Japan or the local Consulate General of Japan.
One extension can be made within one year. If the extension is granted (up to a maximum of six years from the initial application), you can return to Japan within the validity period.
This application is not so difficult, but I think many people are busy and don’t have enough time to apply
Please do not hesitate to ask a Certified Administrative Procedures Legal Specialists (Gyouseishoshi lawyer) to apply for Re-entry Permission.
Thank you for reading.
